Established in 1901, the opera house was used for local and professional plays, live music, local events, and private gatherings. The use of the word “opera” in the name was, in the early 1900s, more politically correct than a theater. Its original massive horseshoe balcony, decorative walls, and tinted electric lighting were a source of community pride. Through the 1950s, the main draw of patrons through the doors was the big production movies Hollywood was creating. However, in 1980, the building was placed on the National Register of Historical Places and became a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Extensive efforts have been made to refurbish the historic building for future generations!
