Setting Up your Google My Business Profile and Listing

In this course, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of creating your Google My Business Profile, and how to become verified. We’ll also share some tips to optimize your Business Listing to ensure the best results.


Lesson 1: How your Google Business Listing will Help you stand out in Search Results

If you want helpful, update to date, and attention-grabbing information to be available to potential customers as they search for your business or services, setting up a Google My Business Profile & Google Business Listing is a great way to do so. Another huge pro is that it’s completely free!

Google Business Profile listings get priority on the first page of Google’s search results, meaning you will stand out and grab the attention of users searching for your business. They also allow you to collect customer reviews and respond to reviews or other questions which can be used to build customer rapport and improve your business’s service or products.

How do User’s Find your Google Business Listing?
  1. User searches for your business in Google
  2. Your Business Listing appears in the right-column of the Search Results Page
  3. User can view important information about your business such as your location, hours, contact information, customer reviews & more!

Lesson 2: Claim your Business Location and Listing

To create your Google My Business Profile and claim your business listing, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to google.com/business.
  2. Click “Manage now.”
  3. Enter your business name and click “Continue.”
  4. Choose the business type that best suits the options provided.
  5. Choose your primary business category. It’s important to pick the most accurate category that describes what you do.
  6. If you have a physical location, enter your address. If you don’t have a location and are providing services to your customers, you can enter the location where you primarily provide service.
  7. Add your phone number & website if you have one.
  8. Click “Continue” and you’ll then head into next steps for the verification process!

Lesson 3: Verify your Business

When you add or claim your profile, you can verify it through phone, text, email, or video. You may have to verify with more than one method. Available methods depend on business category, public info, region, support hours, and volumes.

Once you pick your verification type, Google has to review your verification. These reviews can take up to 5 business days, and help maintain the integrity of profiles. Once verified, you’ll receive a notification. If Google can’t verify your business using the first method, another “Get Verified” button will show up again in your account, and at that point you can try a different verification method.

After you verify, it can take up to a few weeks for your updated business information to show up across Google, but at this point you can begin to update information about your business.
