A living piece of history now grows in Fairmont, Minnesota. A sapling descended from the famous chestnut tree Anne Frank wrote about in her diary has been planted at Fairmont High School.
This meaningful addition is part of the Anne Frank Center’s Sapling Project, which honors Anne’s legacy and promotes messages of hope, resilience, and remembrance. Only 20 of these trees have been planted across the United States.
The Fairmont sapling was brought here thanks to the efforts of 11-year-old Natalie Flaherty, whose passion for Anne Frank’s story and fight against hate began in second grade. Natalie’s dedication led her to create a Kindness Club, speak at public events, and work with lawmakers and Holocaust survivors to bring the tree to Fairmont, Minnesota.
This tree stands as a symbol of love, learning, and the importance of kindness. Visitors are welcome to view the sapling and reflect on the legacy it represents.
