Made up of local community members, the Fairmont City Band plays a free concert in the summer months at the historic 100-year-old bandshell at Sylvania Park. The band plays an assortment of songs every year which includes anything from overtures and show tunes to patriotic music and pop music. The band itself consists of 40 – 50 participants ranging from all different ages. The public is welcome to attend the free concert. There are benches in the park but guests are also welcome to bring their own chairs and sit wherever they would like. Come and enjoy the live performance from the city band at Sylivna Park this summer!
History: The Fairmont City Band was first organized in 1873. At the start, the band played at some different locations around town and also traveled to play elsewhere. Then in 1925, the city of Fairmont purchased plans for the bandshell and the city had started playing there in 1926 and has been playing there ever since.
