This was definitely a hidden gem as we got to enjoy the historical society to ourselves when we visited. Loaded with three floors of artifacts from all different time frames of Martin County, there was so much learning available here. My son loved the room with war artifacts, while my daughters enjoyed the schoolhouse and fashion rooms from different eras. I loved that we could make connections to things we’ve read, other places we’ve visited, and items that were new to us. We spent much longer here than we had anticipated because there was so much to look at and discuss.
Pro Tip: This spot is only open on the weekdays, so make sure to plan accordingly.

Visiting the Martin County Veterans Memorial was such an impactful experience for our family. Seeing all the veterans’ names on the wall from Martin County was eye-opening, as it showed how these communities have been touched by war and service to our country. It was a beautiful fall day with the leaf colors popping when we visited, and the flags waving in the breeze brought tears to my eyes while reflecting on my freedom. The memorial was incredibly well done and was engaging and informative for each family member. Seeing the fighter jet up close stirred our hearts and brought some good conversations for the car ride to our next spot.
Pro Tip: Take the time to walk down the full path and see every part of this memorial.

We ended this adventure at Jake’s Pizza. As the night was starting to cool off, this cozy restaurant was the ideal spot to warm up and fill our tummies. Since we were starving, we had to start with some cheesy bread which was devoured in minutes. A porky pig pizza, buffalo chicken pizza, and a mini cheese pizza completed our family order for the rest of the meal. Eating until we were stuffed, we still had leftovers to bring home. The mini pizzas were an exemplary size for our youngest ones to split while being a great price point.
Pro Tip: If you like trying unique kinds of pizza, check out the macaroni n’ cheese pizza!
A Minnesota mama of 3, I love exploring and finding new hidden gems as a family with my husband! I started my blog in honor of my dad who died of Lewy Body Dementia almost three years ago. We began adventure Fridays with him to make memories and adventure. Since he died, we have continued on with the tradition and hope to inspire others to make all the memories with loved ones before they are gone. Our family loves nature, being active, and every ice cream shop.
