From public schools with strong academics and extracurriculars to private and faith-based schools that focus on character and community, families have plenty of options. Fairmont also offers preschools and early childhood programs to give kids a strong start.

The central mission of Fairmont Area Schools is student learning: Inspired Learning for Life! We work together to help all students to master our essential learning standards and to achieve well beyond these essential standards in those areas where they have the interest and ability to do so.
In order to better define this mission we are systematically working to provide clear answers to the following fundamental questions:
The work necessary to answer these questions drives our continuous improvement and staff development initiatives.

Vision: A small community school committed to excellence in technology, academics, leadership, and extracurricular activities in which everyone matters.
Mission: Assist all students in acquiring the academic, social, technical, and personal skills needed to become career, college, and a community ready while developing a love for learning.

Core Values:

The CHRISTIAN HOME is the Master’s Workshop where the processes of character molding are silently, lovingly, faithfully, and successfully carried on.
We at SJV School believe in the education of the total person centered around Catholic principles and values. Therefore, we believe that the students, parents, faculty, and staff of SJV School work to form a faith community to foster a Christian environment. Each person’s positive self-concept is developed through spiritual growth, academic achievement and instruction among home, school, and community.

St. Paul’s School has a tradition of over 100 years of providing a sound academic program, preparing students for the next level of education. Our small school size creates a family atmosphere centered in God’s concern and care for His children. Students are assured of individual attention and close monitoring of progress.

Building Blocks Learning Center and Child Care Inc. exists to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for infants, toddlers, preschool and school age children. Our focus is to provide a stimulating early care and education experience which promotes each child’s social/emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
We pride our Center’s focus on the individual needs of each child. Each child is considered unique in temperament and rate of development. Curriculum is planned to enhance and challenge individual needs, interests, and abilities. Activities and relationships occur in a healthy, positive, and relaxed environment in which well-qualified staff provide personal attention, guidance, and nurturing to each child.
In addition to the Building Blocks Daycare Center, Fairmont offers a variety of licensed, in-home daycare options. Preschools and child development centers are great, but there’s something extra cozy about a real house where a real family lives and loves.
Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is based on the idea that parents provide their child’s first and most significant learning environment and parents are children’s first and most enduring teachers. ECFE works to support you as a parent/caregiver and to strengthen and empower families. The goal is to enhance the ability of all parents and other family members to provide the best possible environments for their child’s learning and development.
ECFE offers open parenting time to discuss parenting questions/concerns. This is a free resource for parents. ECFE also holds monthly Family Fun Nights for children ages 0-5 along with other activities.
Preschool is an opportunity to learn to share, follow instructions, and begin the foundation for learning that will occur in elementary school. The Fairmont area offers a variety of preschool options:
