Fairmont To Be Featured on Popular Rural Docuseries “My Town”

Fairmont, Minnesota is proud to be featured on the hit streaming series “My Town,” which explores the unique stories from thriving small towns across the USA. In this episode, viewers will see what it’s truly like to live, work, and play in our community through different families who choose to call Fairmont home.

“My Town” is Directed & Hosted by 3-time Emmy Award-Winning Documentarian and TV Anchor, Cory Hepola, who grew up in a small town in western Minnesota.

“Somehow the mainstream narrative of rural America has become one of despair. Yet, that’s not the reality,” said Hepola. “Our mission with this series is to break down those popular misconceptions with the rural lifestyle showing all of the opportunities in our small towns.”

“My Town” is inspired by Hepola’s own life; growing up in small town Perham, Minnesota, all Hepola ever dreamed about was moving to a big city and working as a TV News Anchor. But now, as a 40-something husband with 3 little kids, Hepola is discovering a new perspective for his hometown and rural life. Through 2 Seasons, Hepola has traveled to 15 different rural communities across 6 states.

“There’s power in the word – choice,” said Cory Hepola, Director and Host of “My Town.” “Young people are choosing to live in small towns at faster rates than we’ve seen since at least the 1970’s, yet rural America is rarely seen as a choice. We created ‘My Town’ to tell that story.”

In the first 10 months of streaming online, “My Town” has surpassed 2.1 million views from people in 44 states and 40 countries. This October, the series was Nominated for 4 Emmy Awards including Outstanding Lifestyle Series, Director, Host, and Photographer. Additionally, the series has been picked up by regional cable outlet – BEK TV – with episodes airing across North Dakota (and into MN & SD). In 2024, “My Town” was selected to premiere at the prestigious Twin Cities Film Fest.

Season 2 episodes will premiere exclusively – and for FREE – at “My Town Series” on YouTube starting Sunday, November 2, 2025.
