We started with an appetizer while everyone picked their favorite drink, settling into that easy, relaxed vibe. The service was friendly and quick, and the food came out hot and delicious. We left with full bellies and good energy, ready to spend the afternoon exploring Fairmont.
Pro Tip: Channel Inn only accepts cash or check

After lunch, we made our way over to Cedar Creek Park for a peaceful nature break. Even though we’ve been here before, we couldn’t resist squeezing in a few more trails while we were nearby. There’s just something about this place—the way the light filters through the trees, the sound of the creek nearby—it slows you down in the best way.
We mixed it up with both the paved loop and some of the mowed nature trails, which gave us a little variety in views (and just enough adventure to keep the kids curious). It was the perfect way to walk off lunch, stretch our legs, and take a breath before jumping into the more active part of the evening.

We wrapped up our day at Flying Goose Campground, and it couldn’t have been a better ending. The kids jumped right into the activities—volleyball, pickleball, and of course the playground to burn off the last of their energy.
Once the sun started to dip, we gathered around the campfire for s’mores and a few rounds of cards (we’re always up for some lighthearted family competition).
We watched the sunset and called it another great day in Fairmont!

Hello, We are the Nordmans, an adventure loving family from Iowa! As a duel-working family and 2 kiddos in school, we hope to inspire other families that it’s possible to take that adventure or vacation around busy schedules. We love our great Midwest region but also have a desire to see every US state. The hubs & I love sampling local bourbons, wine, and beer while the kids can’t pass up ice cream.
Let the hospitality in Fairmont welcome you! Just off Interstate-90, you’ll find a wide selection of hotels and restaurants. Perhaps a more rustic stay at a cabin or camping near the lake is more your style – we’ve got you covered.
